HEADStart Tennis inks exclusive deal with Northcliffe Tennis Club

Announcing joint venture between Northcliffe Tennis Club and HeadStart Tennis

HeadStart Tennis, in cooperation with Northcliffe Tennis Club, is pleased to announce an agreement reached between the two entities which will see HeadStart Tennis taking over all instruction and programming at the club, starting in September 2010.

HeadStart Tennis consists of Jamie Power and Ted Misztela and Marijke Nel. They have teamed up to present a unique blend of programming which combines elements of that which was previously offered by The Courtyard Club with that which Northcliffe members have known in past seasons – and also a few new principles which will attempt to cater to a player-base as broad as possible.
The fact that indoor tennis in Nova Scotia suffered a setback with the May 31st closure of The Courtyard Club in Bayers Lake, makes this venture an encouragement to the growth of the game in the province.
“We aim to create as many opportunities as possible for current players to continue playing at their desired skill levels, while also creating an environment at Northcliffe in which newcomers will be encouraged to learn and enjoy the game of tennis”, said Jamie Power.
HeadStart will be conducting classes ranging from a first-time tennis introduction for children and adults, to High Performance programs for competitive and seasoned players.
With the tennis community in Nova Scotia anxiously awaiting confirmation regarding potential future indoor tennis facilities in the province, Northcliffe will be the only facility offering indoor tennis for the 2010/11 season.
Mr. Glenn Dodge, owner of the Northcliffe Tennis Club, is excited about working with HeadStart Tennis: “HeadStart has a reputation for providing the very best tennis instruction in the province. As indoor winter tennis faces some challenges in the coming year both Northcliffe and Head Start Tennis beleive their combined efforts will make the future of this sport and community stronger”.
In the light of the obstacles regarding continuity, Ted Misztela summarized the importance of providing ongoing coaching for particularly the junior players: “We have come a long way with some of the kids in our junior program and, together with their parents, have invested a lot in their potential. It is crucial to us to ensure that they can continue developing to their full abilities”.
A number of junior players from Nova Scotia have earned tennis scholarships at universities in the United States in the past and many others have moved on to rewarding coaching positions.

Marijke Nel expressed the desire to use tennis as a tool for many different purposes:
“HeadStart Tennis recognizes the potential of tennis to contribute to the growth of communities and individuals through physical, social and competitive development. We would like to use this potential to benefit people of all ages and skill levels in our programs. We believe we can make an important contribution to the sport, with the valuable support of Tennis Nova Scotia and Tennis Canada”.

HeadStart Tennis has presented programs at several venues throughout the summer, including Conrose, South End Tennis Club, Portland Estates, Indian Point and Tantallon – and has racked up a number of impressive tournament results among its participants and coaches, which included wins in 3 of the 5 open category titles in the recent Nova Scotia Open Championships.

The Northcliffe Tennis Club will be opening for the winter tennis season on September 20th and HeadStart programming will commence on September 27th, 2010.
