JAMIE POWER
OWNER AND COACH
Jamie Power is a certified Coach 2, whose coaching career started at age 17. He has held positions with City of Halifax, St. Georges Tennis Club, The Waegwoltic, Northcliffe Tennis Club, The Courtyard and Tennis Nova Scotia before forming Headstart.
A passionate player, Jamie started competing in provincial tennis events at the age of 14. By the age of 18 he has competed at Nationals and was ranked #1 in U -18 singles in Nova Scotia. Jamie has continued to compete in Atlantic Canada ever since and has achieved the #1 singles and doubles rankings in Nova Scotia on more than one occasion. He is extremely proud to have won 1 Men’s Doubles Title (with Ted Misztela) and 2 Mixed Doubles Titles (with Amy Brookman) at the prestigious Nova Scotia Open.

TED MISZTELA
OWNER AND COACH
Ted Misztela is a certified Coach 2, who has over 16 years of experience. Ted has studied under world renowned coaches such as Bob Brett (coach of Boris Becker / Groan Ivanesicic / Maran Cilic) and Louis Cayer (captain of the champion British davis cup team ). His players have won over 25 Atlantic titles and two of his players have broke the top 15 in national rankings over the past five years. Ted was a top ranked junior player and has played and coached at several national level tournaments. He also received a college scholarship to play tennis in the U.S.
Some of Ted’s current players include a number one U-12 girl, a number one U-14 girl, a number one U-16 girl, a number one U-18 girl, a number 2 U-16 boy, and many other kids ranked in the top five of their age in Nova Scotia.

CONNOR BALCOME
BUSINESS COORDINATOR AND COACH
Connor Balcome is a certified Club Pro 1 and has been coaching tennis for six years. Before Connor was hired by Headstart, he indepently ran a successful program in Wolfville for four years, where three of his players were invited to the Tennis Nova Scotia talent ID camp, one of his players came second in the U - 14 boys division of the Nova Scotia Open, and is now a nationally ranked badminton player. Connor played division one high school soccer, came second in provincials in senior year, and played for Kings College for two years.
Connor has spent many hours on court studying under Ted and Jamie, and has devoted himself to becoming one of the best young coaches in Atlantic Canada. He is a student at University of King’s College, where he is finishing a degree in Political Science and Journalism.
